Broken down on holiday: getting the car home

If you break down on holiday, make sure you and your fellow travellers are safe first, and call 112 if there is danger; the number works across Europe and in Turkey. Have the car taken to a local garage or yard if needed. You can then carry on with your trip or go home; we collect the car later and bring it to the Netherlands.

Where local rules apply, we collect the car from the garage or recovery company where it stands. On French autoroutes, for example, only the approved local dépanneur may tow a car off the motorway; you reach them through the orange emergency phone or 112. We then collect the car from that dépanneur or garage.

Repatriating a car after an accident or engine failure

After an accident or major engine failure, the car often ends up at a garage or recovery yard far from home. Repairing it locally is not always practical: you may already be back, you may not speak the language, or you would rather have your own garage or body shop do the work. Then you have the car repatriated to the Netherlands. Check with your own insurer whether they cover anything; with our fixed price upfront you know exactly what the trip costs.

Car collection in Germany, Belgium, France or Turkey

We collect cars in every country in Europe and in Turkey: in Belgium and Germany just across the border, but also in France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Poland, Croatia or Greece. We also collect a car you have bought abroad from the seller. And if you want a car taken from the Netherlands to another country, we do that too. What we need from you

Give us the address where the car is, the name and phone number of the garage or company there, and the destination in the Netherlands. Tell us what state the car is in: does it still roll, is there damage to the wheels or steering. Agree who will hand over the keys and the car's papers to us. With those details we name a fixed price and plan the trip.
