Getting your car home from France
French autoroutes have a firm rule: only the approved dépanneur for that stretch of motorway may tow a car off the autoroute. If you break down, switch on your hazard lights, put on the yellow vest and place the warning triangle if it is safe; a vest and a triangle must be carried in the car in France. Stand behind the crash barrier and call from an orange emergency phone (borne d'appel) or on 112. The dépanneur takes the car to its yard or to a nearby garage. That is where we collect it, before driving it to your own garage in the Netherlands. If you are off the autoroute, on a route nationale, in a village or at your holiday address, we collect the car right where it stands. Why can't I call my own tow truck on a French autoroute?
Towing on the autoroutes is regulated: only the approved dépanneur for that section may remove the car. We then collect the car from that dépanneur or the garage where it stands and bring it to the Netherlands.
My car has been at a French garage for days. Is that a problem?
No. Agree with the garage that the car can be released and settle any outstanding bill there. Send us the address and opening hours, and we plan the collection and the drive to the Netherlands.
