Overland we enter Greece from North Macedonia at Evzonoi, after which the A1 runs via Thessaloniki and Larissa to Athens. In the north, the Egnatia Odos (A2) links the west coast at Igoumenitsa with Thessaloniki and the Turkish border. Many Dutch travellers also take the ferry from Italy to Igoumenitsa or Patras, and a broken-down car can return the same way. Greek motorways are tolled. After a breakdown, turn on the hazard lights and put on a vest before you get out. Place the warning triangle and wait behind the barrier. In an emergency, call 112. If the car is on an island such as Crete, Corfu or one of the Aegean islands, the transport includes a ferry crossing. For immediate help on the spot, call a local service first; we then arrange the transport to the Netherlands.
